Contemporary abstract artist with synesthesia
As an artist with synesthesia – a neurological condition where Brandy involuntarily see colors when she hears music- she harnesses the power of her condition to create her paintings: capturing mood and specific instruments with color, texture and visceral mark making.
“There’s something wild about dipping my fingers into a bucket of silky wet paint and spreading it across the texture of canvas; all inhibitions are set aside, and I am free to play because I know the best art is created by getting messy.”
Growing up in Vermont, Brandy has many childhood memories of rambling through the woods behind her home pretending she was exploring a fantastical world influenced by C. S. Lewis, Tolkien, and Grimm’s Fairy Tales. Today she finds herself centered by the sights, sounds and smells of the forest and any time spent there makes her nostalgic for those childhood days.
Brandy lives in Manchester, NH with her husband and son, where she continues to ask herself, “How does my work ignite my viewers imaginations?” This question gives her the space to play with new materials: stabbing holes in canvases to let light peek through, painting on cellophane, adding human hair into the paint, and stitching with wire.
Her vibrant paintings beckon as a portal into a realm where reality and memory blend and each painting demands to be experienced.
